Northwood has a number of official B.A.of E. badminton coaches, Part I, who are available for any members to help them improve their game and answer any questions relating to badminton, but if you do want to ask any other questions then go right ahead and wait for the colourful responses. The main club coaches are Nigel Ball, Eddie Quah, Malcolm Pescod and Joel Barnett. |

Sri Lanka : We're going back for more in 2004 Would you believe it, but we're sending another batch of young (and old) members over to Sri Lanka so they can run their little legs off and learn as much as they can about badminton while they're doing it. Anyone coming back with a great suntan will be ignored by the rest of us (who's jealous?) and will only demonstrate that they didn't spend enough time training but simply lounged about on the beach. Further details of the upcoming visit are here and important first aid information is here and hotel details are here. |

Belgian Breakdown Northwood just claimed its first permanent trophy thanks to all the members who went over to Belgium this year and did so well. We managed to win four events and come runner up in another which all together clinched the trophy for most successful club.

Yuill Cup 2004 Another well organised event by
John Sheldrick who still manages to keep the rowdy old timers in
check. This year saw the emergence of some rather tough competition
with notable performances from Daryl Jacobs who got through to the
last eight and was then narrowly defeated by one of the finalists.
In the end there were two mixed pairs and would you believe it but
the two men were brothers, Diluka and Dinuka Karunaratne, with ladies
Lesley Owens and Sarah Dunkley respectively. Quite a stunning final
which left a few red marks here and there on the players as well
as a visible red flush in the cheeks. Roll on next season so
we can have another one like this.

The New Northwood Badminton Season 2003-04 What a great start to the season
this year. First the Sri Lanka trip for a number of the junior players
and some members of Chequers badminton club showing that clubs can
get together to make a bigger impact and it doesn't have to be one
club goes it alone.
So next time you're playing against one of these youngsters in club just remember that it is only a matter of time before they're kicking your ass so you had better try your hardest to beat them while you still can. Don't be fooled by those cute, innocent looks. They know they will beat you soon and they're just waiting for when they can make you look like an elephant on an ice rink, you can see it in their eyes if you look hard enough. Nigel, the club chairman, is also shown in the photo and has worked hard to provide the juniors with ample access to courts, coaching & practice sessions. |

Northwood juniors take on Sri Lanka and get a great holiday to boot With a great deal of organisation from Nigel and Louie a group of youngsters with a few lucky parents/coaches are soon to travel to Sri Lanka where they will train in one of the top facilities and travel around taking on various local teams. If the heat doesn't get them then the exercise will (or the number of injections/tablets they had to have before going). They start off with a gruelling training session and then play a few teams whilst sightseeing. Another possible trip for the future could be Portugal as we have had contacts from there come over to see us with the prospect of doing an exchange visit. All thanks to Nigel driving the club ever forward which is proving very beneficial for all the youngsters involved. Well done Nigel. |

This season we are playing thirteen
